Saarc foreign secretaries yesterday decided to seek directions from the South Asian heads of state and government assembling here at the 13th Saarc summit on how to ensure full implementation of the South Asian Free Trade Area (Safta) by the January 1, 2006 deadline. >> The historic city of Dhaka is fully ready to play host to the heads of state or government of seven member-states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). >> The two-day 31st meeting of the SAARC Standing Committee comprising the Foreign Secretaries of the member-countries failed to reach a consensus on the inclusion of Afghanistan in the SAARC as its eighth member.>> With the 13th SAARC Summit less than twenty four hours away, the whole country including the long porous border, highways, waterways and the venue of the inaugural session and other important buildings, and hotels where the VVIPs and other dignitaries will stay. >> A proposal for setting up a regional power grid is likely to be adopted at the 13th Saarc Summit to be held in the capital on November 12-13
