Srimangal people busy in resisting drug addiction

MOULVIBAZAR, Aug 27:?In the wake of increasing trend of drug-addiction, theft and dacoities toll-collection, anti-social activities, teasing of school and college-going girl-students at Srimangal upazila town, a civic-meeting with the participation of several hundred people was held at Srimangal Municipality premises to find out ways for freeing the locality from these evil-deeds.
Organised by Srimangal Municipal chairman, the meeting was attended by several hundred local people including leaders of different political and social organisations, public-representatives, educationists, journalists and businessmen.
All commissioners of Srimangal Pourashava, Convenors of Srimangal Upazila unit of BNP Yakub Ali and Sorforaj Ali Babul, convenor of Srimangal upazila unit of AL Ismail Hussain, Convenor of Srimangal upazila unit of JP (Ershad) Dijendra Lal Roy, Srimangal Traders Samity President Mansur Bakth Chowdhury, Srimangal thana Officer-in-Charge Niaj Mohammed, Press Club secretary Nesar Ahmed were also present in the civic-meeting.
This exceptional meeting was held on Aug. 19 with the participation of about 4 to 5 hundred invited local guests.
The speakers describing the ongoing dangerous situation requested all concerned authorities to take stern and regular measures to prevent the evil-deeds here.
The Poura Chairman and former MP Ahad Miah called upon the audience to come forward with their worthy suggestions to free the town from the death-bite of evil-deeds and anti-social activities that have alarmingly intensified here.
This meeting also unanimously took a number of decisions including forming of civic-committee in each ward of the municipality, taking of steps to creats awareness among the local gurdians, measures by the police and the administrations to combat evil deeds.
While talking with this Correspondent many a resident of the Srimangal town have hailed this timely meeting and also have said "We want to see effective-measures in reality to free the town and its adjoining areas from the ongoing evils. It may be mentioned here that Srimangal town that is considered as the tea capital of the country, is one ob the biggest trade-centres of Sylhet Division.
